Try the hotel Cluny Square. It's a beautiful boutique hotel located on the boulevard St-Michel right by the boulevard St-Germain. The decor is very romantic, even if the rooms are not very large (which is actually common in Paris). There is a different theme in every room, it's a superb hotel.

The hotel Odeon has well is very lovely. The decoration is pretty luxurious, and intimist. It's right next to the boulevard st-germain, close to the metro station Odeon.

Hotel Dauphine is a beautiful place in an excellent location - few minutes from Ile de la Cité, and a few minutes from the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. It is very classic in style, elegant but a bit conservative.

We just used priceline. You can select area and estimated price. We did very well. Boutique hotel in the area you mentioned will be expensive. If you use trip advisor or many similar be a bit cautious.

Probably half of the reviews are put there for specific reasons. Either to falsely praise the hotel or tell how bad it is. I have found this to be true with hotels and even more so with restaurants.
