I am planning a trip to Paris and I want to see a show in the Moulin Rouge, but since it's on the red light district I'm kind of worried because I've heard mixed stories about it.. Has anyone been to the red light district? Is it safe??!

Most of the audience at the Moulin Rouge is known to be tourists. Others will be walking to and from metro stations so whilst walking stay close to a group and do not wander in side streets alone.
If you walk in that district alone in the dark you may be approached by punters looking for sex, drug peddlers, or stripped of valuables by pick pockets but on the other hand you may simply be whistled at if you are young, or completely ignored if you are older, dressed conservatively, wear no make up and walk with assurance as if you know your way and are a local. If you have no valuables on you, you won't lose them.
My recommendation to be absolutely safe and avoid any unpleasant experience would be take an official taxi.

well, sort of safe .. especially for a girl walking alone at 2 or 3 a.m. Then you can easily be mugged. But if you walk in a group and hide jewels, cameras, wallets, you'll be OK.
